Thank you for your interest in supporting our school community. Braddock Drive Elementary thrives because of the energy, creativity, and heart our parent volunteers bring – and we’d love for you to join the team. Volunteering is a great way to connect with other families, support our incredible teachers, and most importantly, make a lasting impact on your child’s educational journey.
Our success depends on the time, talents, and dedication of volunteers like you. Even if you have just one hour to give during the entire year, your support can make a meaningful difference. Whether it’s organizing a fundraiser, planning an event, helping in the classroom, or serving on a committee, there are opportunities for everyone to get involved - on your schedule and in your own way. Volunteer from home or at school. No experience is necessary. Join us in making a positive impact and creating lasting memories for our students.
Learn more about the ways to volunteer below. We will aim to get back to you within the week to share information from current volunteers, or to provide needs for getting started. Thank you for making our school amazing!

Read-A-Thons are a fantastic way to encourage reading for children while making it fun and earning money for our school.
We are looking for passionate volunteers to organize a Read-A-Thon during the year, which may include summer or winter break. This committee is in charge of implementing the platform, incentivizing student participation, communicating with partners at the school, and promoting the event.
The Rock Roll and Run event is hosted annually each spring at Loyola Marymount University. Each year, we aim to raise more funds than the prior year while trying to beat the competition of local schools. We are seeking volunteers to help organize Braddock's team, promote the event, and encourage students and their families to raise funds through their communities.
Committees and on-campus volunteering are led by parent volunteers. These committees work independently to provide amazing experiences for our students, parents, and Braddock community at large. The Committees liaise between SBDES to manage allocated budgets (when available) and communicate with Principal Lopez and her team to align with administrative priorities and teaching schedules. While a volunteer badge is not required if working behind the scenes and off-campus, you will need an LAUSD-approved badge if volunteering requires you to be on school grounds. This requirement resets annually in June.
To become an on-campus volunteer* or renew your status:
1) Login to the LAUSD Volunteer Management System and fill out the volunteer application.
2) Make sure your TB test is up to date and certified by a physician.
3) Visit Braddock Drive Elementary's website to complete any additional forms.
Braddock administration will notify you once your application is approved and will provide you with a volunteer badge. Contact Ms. Toni tonatzin.raxtun@lausd.net if you have any questions.
*Note: All volunteers must renew their status each year through the LAUSD system, though a TB test may not be necessary.
Do you have a few hours to spare every week throughout the year? The Volunteer Coordinator is a vital role to promote volunteerism and support our school's volunteer programs. Working closely with Ms. Toni in the front office, the role can be a remote position to consistently broadcast opportunities via various communication channels, to direct parents to appropriate volunteer committees, to organize the volunteer fairs, and to manage general volunteer communications.
Can you help us make a difference in your child's classroom experience? We’re looking for enthusiastic and caring volunteers to serve as Room Parents for each grade level. This is an important role that builds a strong classroom community by supporting teachers, organizing class events and celebrations, and coordinating parent communication.

Let's celebrate the rich multicultural diversity at our school! Throughout the year we organize cultural activities and performances at school for celebrations of Hispanic Heritage, Black History, Asian festivals and more. The creation of special displays and sharing of traditions generate cultural pride and understanding in our diverse community.
Art in Action is a national comprehensive art program that teaches students about art from different cultures around the world. Fun hands-on projects introduce a variety of art concepts, vocabulary, and techniques to students of every age. Art in action is parent-led and is taught by volunteers like you. Share your passion for dance and music with our kids. No experience necessary, just lend a helping hand to tune and maintain instruments, set up for performances, and coordinating logistics to thank our music and dance partners. The more volunteers available on a weekly basis, the faster tuning can be completed prior to music sessions so our students can experience the joy of making music with quality sound.

Want a useful excuse to use your smartphone? Help capture the magic of our events throughout the school year. Anyone with a camera or smartphone can make an invaluable contribution to documenting special moments at assemblies, performances, and more. Bring your passion for photography or videography and willingness to share for school use (e.g. newsletters, website, social media).
This committee has completed many projects over the years, from painting classrooms and drawing beautiful murals around the school, to creating a peaceful reading garden on campus with native plants. Volunteers help year-round off campus to advocate and fund Braddock beautification projects, as well as support on-campus maintenance of the garden and visual improvements.
(The Shaded Outdoor Pavilion project began in 2023 to create a large, tree-shaded outdoor learning area and gathering space near the playground structure, and a row of shade trees near the handball courts.)
Lost a jacket on the first day? Help lone jackets, lunch boxes, and water bottles find their way home. Be a part of the volunteer crew to provide weekly sweeps of campus grounds and match labeled items with students and homeroom teachers. Check the Lost & Found during pick-up near the main office. All unclaimed items will be donated at the end of the school year.
See your kids at lunch time! Lunch time is a fun and lively part of the day where parents help supervise the kids in the outdoor pavilion, and wipe down tables between lunch shifts. Our teachers also need a break to eat, and with limited staff supervision available, students are limited in where they can play during recess. Lend a hand after lunch to keep an eye on kiddos and encourage positive, friendly play throughout campus during recess time--on the playground, ball courts, reading garden, and picnic tables.
Rushing to get in before the 8:05am bell? To best avoid the morning rush and the dreaded blue slip, the Safety Valet Program creates a safe drop-off zone and eliminates many traffic challenges caused by people trying to drop-off their students. Trained by Los Angeles School Police, parent volunteers allow drivers to drop-off without parking or getting out of their car, thus making our school community streets safer for all.
Morning hours: 7:35 - 8:10am
Got early risers who can't wait to beat the bell? The Morning Run Club is a super fun activity to get out those early wiggles and set the focus for the day. The Club runs as long as volunteers are present. No coaching experience needed—just a willingness to support, encourage, and ensure a safe, fun environment for all participants.
Located behind the auditorium, the Parent Center is a resource hub for parents and guardians to support their child's education experience. It offers space for workshops and gatherings to help families engage with the school community. The center is open for ALL Braddock community to get involved and stay informed.
The Parent Center re-opened in Spring 2025 and aims to engage more parents on-campus during the school day, especially during recess and lunchtime hours.
Let's go Braddock bobcats! One or two spirited volunteering hands are all that are needed to coordinate school spirit wear orders, inventory, and delivery to students and families. It’s a fun way to support school spirit and stay involved in our community.
Are you in Los Angeles this summer? Help get our classrooms ready before school starts by opening boxes, sorting books, and delivering them by grade level. This is a great opportunity to lend a hand and help set our students and teachers up for success from day one!
Who would our students be without our teachers? Help purchase gifts/receive donations, provide a special lunch, and coordinate the ways to show how much we appreciate our teachers during teacher appreciation week in May.
Do you love graphic design, taking photos or writing fun copy? The Braddock yearbook is a priceless memento of the school experience to remember invaluable teachers, amazing friends, and keystone events. The yearbook team is a year-round collaborative effort to take/collect photos, organize student submissions, design page layouts, write/edit captions, and coordinate distribution at the end of the year. No experience needed — just a willingness to help!
Make your voice count! The Advocacy Committee works with LAUSD and Braddock Administration to advocate for the resources, programs, and support our school community needs to thrive. Help to identify issues that can improve our student's educational experience and build strong connections with district leaders on behalf of Braddock.
