Open Volunteer Roles

MORNING VALET

• Contact Ms Toni in the Main Office 

• When: 7:40am - 8:05am, daily availability

• Help bring back this hugely popular program to Braddock mornings. The Morning Valet creates a safe drop-off zone on Braddock Drive (at the side gate) and eliminates many traffic challenges caused by people trying to get their students to school before the bell.  Once completing a brief safety training provided by the Los Angeles School Police, just three parent volunteers each morning allow all drivers to drop-off without parking or getting out of their car, thus making our school community streets safer for all.

MORNING FUN RUN

• When: 7:35am - 8:10am, daily availability

• The Morning Fun Run is a super fun activity to get out those early wiggles and set the focus for the day; More importantly, it encourages student participation and school spirit. The Run is ON every morning as long as volunteers are present. No coaching experience needed—just a willingness to organize, promote and encourage a safe, fun environment for all participants. All Braddock students are invited to participate any day, no sign-up necessary. Prizes can be awarded for continued participation.

LUNCH MONITORS

• When: 11:30am - 12:15pm, and 12:10pm - 12:50pm daily availability

• See your kids at school in action! Lunch time is a fun and lively part of the day where parents help supervise the kids in the outdoor pavilion, and wipe down tables between lunch shifts.  Our teachers also need a break to eat, and with limited staff supervision available, students are limited in where they can play during recess. 

Assisting with transitions from the school yard to the Pavilion. We do this by placing cones near the lunch area, & handing out lunch trays to the kids in line for lunch

• Helping the younger kids (especially TK through 2nd) opening water bottles and their lunches. They typically will raise their hands if they need help.

• Mopping tables & seating benches between lunch shifts (@ 12:00, 12:25, and 12:50 p.m.)

• Sweeping up the floor between lunch shifts.

• Encouraging order and positive behavior, assisting students as needed

RECESS MONITORS

• When: 9:40am - 10:40am (Yard), and 12pm - 1:10pm (Pavilion) daily availability

• Lend a hand after lunch to keep an eye on kiddos and encourage positive, friendly play throughout campus during recess time--on the playground, ball courts, reading garden, and picnic tables. 

• o  Monitoring students in the Pavilion, the Yard, and in the Reading Garden (listed in order of priority)

• o  Removing trash from the Yard and picking up unclaimed lost and found items (L&F racks located near Room 1)

• o  Encouraging order and positive behavior, assisting students as needed

THURSDAY LUNCH CLUB

• When: Thursdays at 12:00pm - 1:00pm (Parent Center)

• Join us for Arts and Crafts, Games, Kindness, and Chill Vibes as we provide a welcoming space for our scholars to play during lunch recess time

• No need to sign-up!  All volunteers are welcomed and appreciated

• We are also collecting donations of board/card games, art supplies, beading materials, white/construction paper
